Guide to Pubic Hair Removal
A Beginners Guide to Pubic Hair
Removal
Pubic hair removal has been
practiced for years, centuries in some cultures, in countries
around the globe. The practice did not, until recently
however, gain popularity in the United States. With the
topic of pubic hair
no longer taboo in the
United States, the subject has flourished.
Benefits listed by those who have trimmed or removed pubic
hair include improved self image, increased feeling of
cleanliness and even increased sexual sensitivity.
Options for hair removal can however, prove problematic for
some and should not be done on a whim or following tequila
shots and a dare.
The first choice for those considering altering their pubic
hair is whether they want to neaten up with a trim or remove
all of their pubic hair. Much like going to the barber or
beauty shop you should choose a style. For those wanting
the pubic hair to appear neater or wanting to wear a specific
bathing suit a close trim is the best option.
Pubic hair that is completely removed, also referred to as a
Brazilian, is gaining popularity in the United States.
With a Brazilian the hair is removed from the pubic area as
well as all surrounding areas, including the buttocks.
Some people choose a combination of the two, opting for a
triangle or other unique shape.
Once the style decision is made, choose what product to use to
remove the hair. For those just wanting to trim up the
best option will be electric clippers or a beard and mustache
trimmer. Shampooing and conditioning the pubic hair in a
hot bath or shower first makes the hair fluffy, soft and easier
to trim.
With that done place yourself in front of a mirror, to more
easily see what you are doing, and start trimming. You
can use a comb and a pair of scissors, clipping similar to the
way your hair dresser does, or an electric trimmer. If
you are using an electric trimmer that has different guards
with it, start out with the longest length guard, you can go
shorter from there if you wish. Keep in mind that pubic
hair is curly and will coil back shorter once it has
dried. Trimming can be done easily, without the skin
irritation associated with shaving and is fairly easy to
maintain. Maintenance usually requires a repeat trim once
a week.
If your opting to go bare, there are several different ways to
get the job done. Waxing is one option that is gaining in
popularity despite the pain associated with it. Waxing
can be done at a salon or at home. While privacy is
ensured at home, results are not. The “wax” sold for home
use, while similar, is not the same as the products used in
salons. It is more like a sticky, gluey substance and
while it still pulls hair out from the root it often misses
hairs, often causing the process to be repeated. If you
are going to attempt to wax your pubic hair at home there are
some pre-waxing steps that can improve your results.
First trim hair to 1/4 to 1/2 inches, which will help the wax
grab on to the hair. Also, make sure that hair is free of
waxes or oils and dry, but not freshly washed. Once that
is completed warmed wax is applied to the pubic hair and a
strip of cloth placed on top. When the wax has cooled
hold on to the strip of cloth and pull up and back against the
direction of hair growth. Yes it is painful pulling the
hair out from the roots. The pubic area is also
frequently sore, swollen and red for twenty-four to forty-eight
hours. The benefit of using wax for pubic hair removal is
that the process rarely has to be repeated more frequently than
every four weeks. Waxing just the bikini line is another
option, one that works well for some.
If ripping out your pubic hair by the roots does not sound like
something you can tolerate, then shaving is another option that
is popular and works well for many. Shaving with a wet or
electric razor is the number one choice for removing pubic
hair. Again however, there are some negatives that should
be considered. Shaving can produce itching, stinging and
nicks to the pubic area, this constant irritation can outweigh
the benefits of shaving for some. If you are wanting to
remove all your pubic hair, shaving usually has to be done on a
daily basis, another negative for many. Whether removing
all the hair or just some, the hair to be removed should be
clipped short to prevent clogging the razor. A warm
shower, with a shampoo and conditioning, is also helpful as it
softens the hair making it easier to shave. Pull the skin
taught with one hand and shave with the other, you may need to
repeat the process due to the different directions of hair
growth, but attempt to limit razor strokes to two or
three. A mirror to help with visualization may improve
your results. After you have shaved always apply a
creamy, hydrating lotion to help ward off itchiness.
There are several methods for removing pubic hair and while all
work well, all also have some negatives that should be
considered. Whether you are considering a trim or
removing all your pubic hair, it is not a decision that should
be taken lightly. With the exception of waxing all of the
methods require some type of regular upkeep, upkeep you have to
be committed to performing. Gather complete and honest
information, consider what you can commit to and investigate
all your options before removing your pubic hair.
