Laser Facial Hair Removal - Good
or Bad?
For a person, who is extremely cautious
about his/her appearance, presence of excessive hair on the
face can be extremely irritating causing great discomfort and
displeasure.
People often get irritated spending great deal of time and
energy on removing hair from the face using procedures such as
shaving, tweezing, waxing and creaming off. However, the fact
is that all these procedures are all temporary solutions
because hair growth returns after some time. Apart from these
procedures, there are certain other permanent hair removal
solutions that are available in the market. Important among
these is the laser treatment method used for removing facial
hair.
During the recent times, laser facial hair removal
method has become extremely popular due to a variety of
reasons. People find this treatment extremely simple,
convenient, effective and safe. Moreover, this treatment causes
minimal discomfort to the individuals and can be used for
removing hair from virtually any part of the face without
causing any side effects or damage to the facial skin.
Some of the locations where laser treatment is commonly used
include chin, eyebrows, hair on the upper lip, nose hair and
even hair that cover all the face.
The process of laser facial hair removal involves usage of
low energy laser beams that penetrate the skin and cause
localized damage around the area surrounding the hair
follicles. As a result, the hair follicles get burnt and fail
to support hair growth any further. However, these beams do not
cause any thermal damage to the skin. The most important aspect
of this method is that it must be repeated on the same area for
almost 6-8 sessions so as to gain the desired permanent hair
removal effect.
Number of sessions and the length of treatment tend to vary
from area to area where the procedure has to be performed. This
is because laser treatment is effective only when the hair
follicle is in growth stage. Since, hair grows as cycles.
Hence, not all hair follicles are at the same stage at the same
time.
It is always better to know about these benefits and dangers
associated with a particular treatment procedure before going
ahead with it. Although laser facial hair removal method offers
several advantages, it is also associated with certain dangers
or side effects. One should remember that this procedure is not
effective on patients with darker skin and hair.
Also, people having blonde, red or gray do not respond to
the treatment. Only those individuals with fair skin and dark
hair are responsive. Side effects of this treatment include
temporary hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin,
hypopigmentation or lightening of skin color, changes in skin
texture, blistering, scarring and crusting or scabbing.
Another disadvantage of the laser facial hair
removal method is that it is extremely expensive.
Cost depends from region to region and also on the size of the
treated area. According to the data available with American
Society for Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of one single
session in U.S is around $450 - $500. Moreover, this procedure
is safe only when performed by an expert cosmetic surgeon.
